What Size Flatbed Fits My Truck? Aluminum Flatbed Sizes by Make & Model

Real bed sizes from trucks we've built for, from a 6' × 6'6" Tacoma to an 8' × 15' Ram 5500, plus how width and length work and what to send for a quote.

Most midsize pickups take a flatbed 6' wide by 6'6" long. Most half-ton pickups take 6'6" × 9'. Three-quarter-ton and single rear wheel one-ton pickups usually take 6'6" × 9' or 7' × 9', and dual rear wheel pickups and cab chassis trucks like the F-450, F-550 and Ram 5500 take 8'-wide decks, typically 9' to 15' long. Those are the sizes we build most, but the right size for your truck depends on its cab, wheelbase and frame, and every bed we build is measured to the truck before we quote.

Every size below comes from a bed we've actually built. Use it to see what fits your truck, then send us your details for an exact size.

How to read flatbed sizes (width × length)

Flatbed sizes are written width first, then length. A 6' × 6'6" flatbed is 6 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long. In shop shorthand you'll see the same bed written as 6x6'6, 6x66 or 6 × 6.5. An 8 × 12 flatbed is 8 feet wide and 12 feet long. Width runs side to side; length runs front to back.

Common flatbed widths in feet and inches.

Flatbed sizes by truck class

Midsize pickups: Tacoma, Frontier, Ranger, Colorado

What size flatbed fits a Tacoma? Most midsize builds are 6' × 6'6", the bed people mean when they search for a 6x6'6 flatbed. Trucks with longer frames take 6' × 7' or 6' × 7'6". The Tacoma, Frontier and Colorado share the same three sizes in our builds; Rangers have been 6' × 6'6" or 6' × 7'.

Half-ton pickups: F-150, Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Tundra, Ram 1500

What size flatbed fits an F-150 or Silverado? Our most common half-ton bed is 6'6" × 9'. Shorter 6'6" × 7' and 6'6" × 7'6" decks suit trucks with less frame behind the cab, and 7' × 9' is an option when you want more width. Pool service companies run 81" × 8' pool truck beds on the F-150 and Silverado 1500, with low 9" or 12" fold down gates.

3/4-ton and 1-ton single rear wheel: F-250, F-350, 2500s

What size flatbed fits an F-250? Usually 6'6" × 9' or 7' × 9', and the same goes for a single rear wheel F-350. Silverado, Sierra and Ram 2500s take the same widths, with 7' × 8' and 7' × 10' decks depending on the truck.

1-ton dual rear wheel: F-350, Silverado 3500, Ram 3500

Dual rear wheels make the back of the truck wider, so these trucks get 8'-wide (96") decks. Most of our dual rear wheel beds are 8' × 9' to 8' × 12'. If you've been searching for an 8x12 flatbed, this is the class that takes one, along with the F-450 and some F-550s.

Cab chassis: F-450, F-550, Ram 5500

Cab chassis trucks come without a pickup box, so the deck length is set by the cab-to-axle (CA) measurement: the distance from the back of the cab to the center of the rear axle. Our F-450 beds have been 8' × 12', F-550 beds 8' × 10' to 8' × 14', and Ram 5500 beds 8' × 15'.

Van cab chassis: Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit

Sprinter 3500 beds are most often 7' × 12', with 7' × 13'6", 7' × 14' and 7'6" × 14' on longer chassis. Transit cab chassis beds have been 7'6" wide: 7'6" × 12' on a 138" wheelbase Transit 250, 7'6" × 14' on a 156" wheelbase Transit 350HD, and 7'6" × 16' on a longer chassis.

Cab-over trucks: Isuzu NPR, Hino 195

NPR beds are usually 8' × 14' or 8' × 16', and we've built 7' × 16' flatbeds as well. Hino 195 beds have been 8' × 14'.

What determines flatbed length?

  • Cab style. The bigger the cab, the less frame is left behind it. A crew cab with a short box takes a shorter deck than a regular or extended cab with a long box.
  • Wheelbase and factory bed length. On a pickup, the length of the factory box is a good guide to how much deck the frame can carry.
  • Cab-to-axle (CA). On cab chassis trucks, CA sets the deck length so the load sits in the right place relative to the rear axle.
  • Frame length and rear overhang. How far the frame runs past the axle affects how far back the deck can go, and the room left for a hitch, dock bumper or liftgate.

What determines flatbed width?

  • Single vs. dual rear wheels. Single rear wheel trucks usually take a 6' to 7' deck. Dual rear wheel trucks take an 8' deck to cover the duals.
  • Truck size. Midsize pickups usually take 6' (72"); half-tons and 3/4-tons take 6'6" (78") or 7' (84"); Transit cab chassis take 7'6" (90").
  • How you use it. A wider deck carries more; a narrower one stays closer to the truck's width. Pool beds on the F-150 and Silverado 1500 are 81" wide.

Frequently asked questions

What size flatbed fits a Toyota Tacoma?

Most Tacoma flatbeds we build are 6' wide by 6'6" long. Trucks with longer frames take 6' × 7' or 6' × 7'6".

What size flatbed fits an F-150 or Silverado 1500?

Our most common size for both is 6'6" × 9'. We've also built 6'6" × 7' decks for both, plus 6'6" × 7'6", 7' × 9' and 6'6" × 10' F-150 beds.

What size flatbed fits an F-250?

On single rear wheel F-250 and F-350 pickups we most often build 6'6" × 9' or 7' × 9'. Dual rear wheel F-350s usually take an 8'-wide deck from 8' × 9' to 8' × 12'.

What are standard flatbed sizes?

There isn't one standard size; it follows the truck. Common sizes are 6' × 6'6" for midsize pickups, 6'6" × 9' for half-tons, 6'6" × 9' or 7' × 9' for 3/4-ton trucks, and 8' × 9' to 8' × 12' for dual rear wheel trucks.

What does 6' × 6'6" mean on a flatbed?

It's width by length: 6 feet wide and 6 feet 6 inches long. The first number is always the width.
