Alumbody Gates

The gate is how you use the bed.

Every Alumbody aluminum bed is configured with the gate assembly that fits how you actually work. Fold-down sides for fast forklift loading, lift-out stakes for tall loads, swing-out fronts for long stock, or a Tommy Gate liftgate in the rear — we build the assembly that matches your job and your chassis.

Most builds combine 2 or 3 styles on one bed. Pick the configuration that matches each side independently — front, driver, passenger, and rear can all use a different gate style.

  • Fold-down, lift-out, swing-out & barn-door styles
  • Heights 22" – 48" and custom

Four Gate Styles

Pick the right gate for each side

Mix and match across all four sides of the bed. Most fleet builds combine fold-down sides, a swing-out front, and barn doors or a liftgate in the rear.

Fold-Down Gates

Drops flat for full-side access

Hinged at the bottom of the bed rail so the gate folds flat down against the side of the truck. Lets a forklift or skid steer load straight in from the side without obstruction. Locks vertical with stainless steel chains and quick-release pins.

Standard heights
22" • 25" • 30"
Best for
  • Forklift loading
  • Pallet & material yards
  • General contractors

Lift-Out Stake Gates

Pull straight up out of stake pockets

Individual stake panels that drop into welded aluminum stake pockets. Pull a panel out to clear access, leave them in for tall loads. Quickest way to switch between a flatbed and a stakebed configuration in seconds.

Standard heights
30" • 38" • 41" • 48"
Best for
  • Landscapers & tree services
  • Pool service
  • Furniture & appliance haulers

Swing-Out Gates

Hinged vertically — swings like a door

Mounted on heavy-duty stainless hinges so the gate swings to the side rather than folding down. Ideal for the front of a bed (against the headache rack) or a wide rear opening where a fold-down gate would foul the ground.

Standard heights
30" • 38" • 41"
Best for
  • Front bed gates
  • Lumber yards
  • Plumbing & pipe haulers

Barn Doors

Split double-doors for the rear

A pair of vertical doors hinged at each rear corner, meeting in the middle. Opens 180° flat against the side rails — easier than a fold-down on tall loads, and works perfectly above a dock bumper or liftgate.

Standard heights
30" • 38" • 41"
Best for
  • Loading-dock work
  • Box-truck conversions
  • Dock-height fleets

Factory-integrated liftgate options

We install liftgates as part of the bed build — not as a third-party retrofit. Wiring, framing and rear-bumper integration all happen in our Orange, CA shop.

Liftgate

Tommy Gate G2-Series

1,300–1,600 lb capacity • Aluminum platform • Aircraft-grade hydraulic actuators

Our most-installed liftgate. The G2 stows underneath the bed when not in use and unfolds into a full-width platform — perfect for pickup-class chassis and service trucks running deliveries every day.

Liftgate

Tommy Gate Railgate

2,000–6,600 lb capacity • Steel or aluminum platform • Heavy-duty fleet use

Vertical-travel railgate for medium-duty chassis (F-450, F-550, Ram 5500, Isuzu NPR). The platform stays parallel to the ground from deck height all the way to the road for safe pallet handling.

Liftgate

Maxon GPT / TE-25

1,650–2,500 lb capacity • Tuck-under or rail-style

When fleets standardize on Maxon, we install it. Tuck-unders for pickups, TE-25 rail-style for medium-duty box and stake bodies.

Liftgate

Anthony Liftgates

1,500–3,500 lb capacity • Cantilever & rail-style

An option for customers who prefer Anthony's cantilever or rail-style liftgates, integrated into the rear of the Alumbody bed at the factory.

FAQ

Choosing the right gate

How do I decide between fold-down and lift-out?

If you load with a forklift or skid steer, fold-down wins — the gate drops flat against the side rail so the forks have a clear path. If you load from above (cranes, by hand, or with a Bobcat scoop), lift-out stakes are simpler, lighter and faster to remove entirely for a flatbed configuration.

Can I mix gate styles on one bed?

Yes — most of our builds combine two or three styles. A common configuration is fold-down sides, a swing-out front, and a Tommy Gate liftgate in the rear, or 41" lift-out stakes all the way around with barn doors above a Maxon railgate.

Will fold-down gates handle a forklift driving on them?

Our standard fold-down panels are designed to support direct forklift loading when dropped flat against the side rail. For high-cycle fleet use we offer a reinforced version with a 1/4" tread-plate skin and additional cross-bracing.

What height do I need?

22–25" for low loads that need to stay visible (deliveries, appliances). 30" is the most-ordered height — good for general work and mulch/landscape material. 38–41" for tree work, tall equipment and big landscape loads. 48" for trash, dirt and bulk materials that can pile high.

Do you sell gates separately, or only with a bed?

We build complete gate assemblies for existing Alumbody beds, and we also fabricate replacement gates and stakes for older trucks. A gate-only install is typically one shop day; a full bed-and-gate build is 2–4 weeks.

Can I add a Tommy Gate later?

Yes. We can pre-wire the rear sub-frame and bumper for a liftgate on the original build, so adding the gate later is a one-day install instead of a full re-fabrication.
