Alumbody Tool Boxes

Storage that's built into the bed.

Every Alumbody tool box is fabricated from the same 5052 marine-grade aluminum as the bed and welded directly into the rail or chassis crossmember. No bolt-on brackets, no rattle, no rust, no leaks at a seam — and no third party to call when something doesn't fit.

Topsiders along the rails, underbody boxes beneath the deck, a crossbed up front, or a fully custom built-in for the way you actually work. We spec the box around the chassis, the trade and the bed — not the other way around.

  • Topsider, underbody, crossbed & custom
  • Sizes from 14" × 12" × 18" to 24" × 24" × 88"
  • Lockable stainless paddle latches
  • Continuous EPDM weather seal
  • Welded into the bed — never bolted on
  • Built & installed in Orange, CA

Four Box Styles

Pick the layout that matches your tools

Most fleet builds combine 2 or 3 box styles on one truck — topsiders for hand tools, underbodies to keep the deck clear, and a crossbed for long stock.

Topsider Tool Boxes

Mounted along the top rail of the bed

Long, low-profile boxes that run the length of the bed rail, sitting just above the deck. Easy to reach from the ground, lockable from outside the truck, and they don't steal any deck space underneath. Our most-installed box style.

Standard sizes
16" × 13" × 60" – 24" × 24" × 88"
Best for
  • Contractors carrying hand tools
  • Service techs
  • Plumbing & electrical

Underbody Tool Boxes

Hung beneath the bed deck between the rails

Boxes mounted under the deck on the chassis frame — the entire deck stays open and flat. We typically run two boxes per side, sized to clear the wheel wells, fuel tank and exhaust on your specific chassis.

Standard sizes
14" × 12" × 18" – 18" × 18" × 60"
Best for
  • Open-flatbed builds
  • Landscaping & tree work
  • Crews that need a clear deck

Crossbed / Front Boxes

Spans the bed behind the cab

Full-width box behind the cab, against the headache rack. Common on pickups running long stock — pipe, conduit, lumber — because the box gives a clean front wall and a flat bed behind it. We can split the lid 50/50 for two-tech access.

Standard sizes
18" × 18" × bed-width (typically 48"–96")
Best for
  • Pipefitters & welders
  • HVAC & mechanical
  • Mobile service trucks

Custom Built-Ins

Built into the bed structure itself

When a standard topsider or underbody won't fit the workflow, we build the storage into the bed framing — recessed tool wells, slide-out drawers, ladder tunnels, drum compartments. Drawn and welded one-off in our Orange shop.

Every Box, Standard

Specs included on every build

Welded, Not Bolted

Boxes are fabricated from the same 5052 aluminum as the bed and welded into the chassis or rail. Nothing rattles loose; nothing leaks at a bolt seam.

Locking Stainless Latches

Every lid is fitted with a stainless steel paddle latch, keyed lock and weather gasket. Standard keying available on multi-truck fleet builds.

Weather-Sealed Lids

Continuous EPDM gasket and a positive-close stainless hinge keep rain, road spray and chemical mist out — tools stay dry through a Southern California winter or a freeway car-wash.

Custom Dividers

Add aluminum dividers, drop-in trays, drawer slides or rod-holders inside any box. Most builds get at least one tool tray and two compartments per box.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can I add tool boxes to a bed I already have?

Yes — if the bed is sound. We typically retrofit underbody boxes on existing Alumbody beds in a couple of shop days. Adding topsiders to a third-party bed usually requires reinforcing the top rail first, which we inspect for during the estimate.

Will the boxes affect ground clearance or my fuel tank?

We measure your specific chassis before fabrication. Underbody boxes are always built to clear the OEM fuel tank, exhaust and spare-tire location — and to keep at least 9" of ground clearance under the lowest point.

Can I get all my boxes keyed alike?

Yes. Multi-truck fleets typically run a single key for every box on every truck — we set that up at the latch supplier before installation.

What's the lead time?

Stand-alone tool box add-ons to an existing Alumbody bed are usually 3–5 shop days. Full bed builds with integrated boxes run 4–6 weeks from drop-off to delivery.
