Aluminum Truck Bed FAQ
Straight answers about sizing, specs, gates, liftgates, installation and shipping.
Quotes & ordering
How do I get a quote for an aluminum truck bed?
Use the online quote form or call (714) 602-6970 with your truck's year, make, model and cab, plus the gates and options you want. We email or text a firm quote within 2 business days.
What information do you need for a quote?
Your truck's year, make and model, the gate setup you want, whether you're keeping the factory bumper or adding a dock style bumper, whether the truck has a factory backup camera, the bed length you need, and whether we're installing or shipping.
How long does it take to build a bed?
Standard flatbeds and stake beds typically take 2–4 weeks. Heavily customized builds with liftgates or custom tool boxes may take longer; we give you a firm date when you order.
Do you work with dealers and fleets?
Yes. We build truck beds for dealers and for the direct public.
Materials & specs
What are Alumbody beds made of?
High strength 6000 series aluminum, with 6061-T6 aluminum extrusions in the gate frames and stainless steel hinges, latches and locking pins.
How much weight can an Alumbody bed carry?
Our floors carry an 8,000 lb distributed load rating — in most cases more than the truck's Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. Your truck's payload and axle ratings always set the real limit.
How much lighter is aluminum than steel?
By volume, aluminum weighs about a third as much as steel. As a guide, a typical 8' Alumbody flatbed weighs 350–450 lbs, versus 800–1,000 lbs for a comparable steel-and-wood bed.
Will an aluminum truck bed rust?
No. Aluminum doesn't rust; it forms a thin oxide layer that protects the metal. Stainless steel hardware is used where it matters, and throughout for wet or cold climates.
What warranty do you offer?
Every Alumbody bed has a 3-year structural warranty and a 1-year warranty on lighting.
Fit & sizing
What size flatbed fits my truck?
It depends on the truck. Midsize pickups like the Tacoma, Frontier, Ranger and Colorado usually take 6' × 6'6"; half-ton and 3/4-ton pickups usually take 6'6" × 9' or 7' × 9'; dual rear wheel trucks usually take 8' wide decks. See our flatbed size guide or your truck's page for real builds.
Which trucks do you build beds for?
Toyota, Ford, Chevy, Ram, GMC, Nissan, Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Isuzu NPR and other cab-chassis trucks — from midsize pickups to F-550s and cab-overs.
Can I keep my factory bumper?
Yes. Many builds reuse the factory bumper; a dock style bumper is the other common choice.
Will the bed work with my backup camera?
Tell us if your truck has a factory backup camera when you request a quote, and we plan the rear of the bed around it.
Gates, liftgates & tool boxes
What gate options are available?
22" fold down gates, 30", 38" and 41" lift out gates, or no gates. We also build custom heights, barn doors, and mixed setups with a different style on each side.
Should I choose fold down or lift out gates?
If you load with a forklift or skid steer, fold down gates drop flat for a clear path. If you load from above or haul tall loads, lift out stakes are simpler to remove for an open flatbed.
Which liftgates do you install?
Tommy Gate G2-Series — our most popular liftgate — and the Maxon 66-16 (1,600 lb capacity), integrated with the bed during the build.
Can I add tool boxes?
Yes. We build underbody and topside aluminum tool boxes sized to your deck, from compact 14" × 12" × 18" boxes to long topside boxes.
Do you build replacement gates for an existing bed?
Yes. We fabricate complete gate assemblies and replacement gates and stakes, including for older trucks.
